Police raid pro-Russian Victory bloc's office in Moldova amid alleged election fraud
On the morning of October 16, five buses carrying special forces were seen outside the office of the pro-Russian Victory bloc in Bielce. The police confirmed they were conducting searches
NewsMaker reported on the situation.
Several media outlets mentioned that these raids are linked to alleged fraud during the upcoming presidential election and EU membership referendum set for October 20.
Police spokesperson Diana Fetko confirmed to NewsMaker that the search in Bielce is being led by the National Investigation Inspectorate. She added that more detailed information would be released later.
The report noted that the Victory bloc was established in April 2024, in Moscow. It consists of five parties controlled by the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, who has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Moldova. These parties include the banned Shor Party, along with Chance, Revival, Alternative and Salvation Force of Moldova, and Victory.
In August, the Central Election Commission denied the Victory bloc's registration for the presidential election and referendum due to the similarity between the bloc's name and that of one of its member parties, Victory. Another reason was the inclusion of the banned Shor Party within the bloc.
In Moldova, several Telegram channels linked to Ilan Shor and other deputies from the Shor group have been blocked for "violating local laws."
