Zelenskyy rejects UN Secretary-General’s visit to Ukraine over Russia trip - media
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected a visit to Ukraine by António Guterres over the UN chief's participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia
According to AFP, a source from the Ukrainian president's office said, "After Kazan, (Guterres) wanted to come to Ukraine, but the president did not confirm his visit. So Guterres won't be here, specifically because of the humiliation of sanity and international law in Kazan."
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told Suspilne, “We’re working to arrange a visit at a mutually convenient time.”
About the BRICS
On October 22, the BRICS summit under the Russian presidency started in Kazan. Delegations from 36 countries, including 22 heads of state, attended the meeting.
At the BRICS summit, Vladimir Putin held a series of meetings with officials and representatives of other countries. Russian propagandists wrote that the BRICS member states had agreed on a "wording" regarding Ukraine. Putin's aide, Yuri Ushakov, announced that this "wording" would be included in the final declaration of the summit.
It should be noted that Brazil, Russia, India, and China are the founders of the BRICS (BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). The creation of BRICS was initiated by Russia.
The group is not an official multilateral organization, such as the UN, the World Bank, or the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The heads of state and government of the participating countries meet annually, with each country assuming a one-year presidency of the group.
