End discussion about red lines: Denmark's PM urges Ukraine allies to lift ban on strikes on Russia
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has called on Ukraine’s allies to stop debating so-called "red lines" and allow the use of provided weapons to strike deep inside Russia
She made these remarks during an interview with Bloomberg.
"My suggestion is, let us end the discussion about red lines. It has been a mistake during this war to have a public discussion about red lines,” as that is “simply giving the Russians too good a card in their hands," Frederiksen stated.
She pointed out that the "most important red line" was crossed by Russia in February 2022 when it launched a full-scale invasion. Frederiksen stressed she will never accept that Moscow gets a say in what NATO, Europe, or Ukraine should do.
The Prime Minister also argued that removing the ban on strikes inside Russian territory does not mean the allies would be drawn into the war or trigger an escalation at the front.
"There have been constant discussions about, ‘Are we allowed to give this?’ It would be really good to stop the delays there have been. And I think that the restrictions on the use of weapons should be lifted," Frederiksen asserted.
- On August 19, Denmark’s Foreign Minister echoed this sentiment, affirming that Ukraine has the right to use Danish weapons on Russian soil.
