Ukraine opens dialogue with Syria’s new government
Kyiv has opened dialogue with Syria's new authorities and is willing to restore diplomatic relations if they change the Assad regime's stance on Ukraine's territorial integrity
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi during a briefing, according to Ukrinform.
Tykhyi stressed that Ukraine has reached out to the new Syrian government. "We'll see how they act. We know that the Assad regime recognized violations of Ukraine's territorial integrity, which led to the severing of diplomatic ties. If this policy changes, relations will be restored," he said.
He also explained that the 500 tons of wheat flour sent as humanitarian aid to Syria isn’t just a one-off gesture, but a sincere effort to help the Syrian people. "We understand how hard it is for ordinary Syrians after years of war and the fall of the brutal regime. This is part of a broader policy, and you will see more steps in this direction soon," he added.
