Ukrainian howitzer Bohdana surpasses German PzH 2000 in accuracy, hits targets up to 60 km away
The Ukraine-produced Bohdana self-propelled howitzer has demonstrated superior accuracy and range, exceptional durability in combat, and is equipped with advanced protection and repair systems
Defense Express reported the information.
The Ukraine-produced Bohdana self-propelled howitzer has proven to be more accurate than even the German PzH 2000, not to mention the Soviet 203-mm 2S7 Pion. Additionally, the Bohdana boasts a firing range of up to 42 kilometers with standard high-explosive shells and up to 60 kilometers when using rocket-assisted shells.
This was reported by ArmyInform in a feature citing soldiers from the 48th Artillery Brigade, which operates the Bohdana howitzer manufactured by the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant.
Defense Express noted that the Bohdana howitzer’s accuracy and range data, revealed for the first time, show it can hit targets with precision by the second shot. In combat on the Donetsk front, Bohdana crews effectively struck targets up to 30 kilometers away, including Russian vehicles, artillery, ammunition depots, and fortifications.
“The Bohdana howitzer has a range of 800 kilometers on highways and 300 kilometers off-road, with a top speed of 80 km/h on highways and a combat weight of 28 tons,” the report says.
The Bohdana howitzer demonstrates exceptional durability: it withstood hits from five Russian kamikaze drones targeting its armored cabin, survived an anti-tank mine explosion, and endured a barrage of cluster 203-mm shells from a Pion artillery system, sustaining fragment damage without critical failures, while the crew remained unharmed.
To protect the self-propelled howitzer at positions, electronic warfare systems, coverage from mobile fire groups, camouflage, and anti-drone nets are used. It is noted that there is already one Bohdana with a barrel life of 3,000 shots and other howitzers in the brigade have already fired over 2,000 shots.
The most common malfunctions of the Bohdana are barrel jams and the need to replace operational rings, as well as occasional issues with the onboard electronics. All necessary repairs are carried out by representatives of the manufacturer, with the crew only needing to deliver the howitzer to a safe location.
