Western politicians have fundamental change of heart about Ukraine, Scholz is no exception – diplomat Ohryzko
The support for Ukraine and statements made by Western politicians in recent days indicate that much has changed in European countries, particularly in Germany
Volodymyr Ohryzko, Ukraine's Foreign Minister (2007-2009), said this in an interview with Yuriy Fizer on Espreso TV.
Answering the question of whether the negotiations with Putin are a thing of the past, Ohryzko said that several things are clear.
“The first thing is that there has indeed been a radical change in the minds of European politicians. And Scholz is not an exception in this regard, but on the contrary, I think he is the best illustration of the fact that politicians should look at the realities and not follow their often outdated concepts,” he said.
According to the former minister, the change in German politics is the best evidence that smart politicians are now changing concepts themselves if they do not work. This, in his opinion, is the concept of the Social Democratic Party, which was formed in the days of Willy Brandt.
“This is his new German eastern policy towards the USSR, back when he did not want to see what was happening behind the Iron Curtain, when he did not want to see what was being done to dissidents in the USSR, that the Soviet Union was a prison of nations and so on. And to the fact that Scholz says that we will help Ukraine as long as it takes, and he really proclaims things that were absolutely impossible a year ago. 'Glory to Ukraine!' from the German Chancellor is a sign that a lot has really changed in Germany. This is a big positive plus,” Ohryzko summarized.
