Czech President Pavel finds 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine
The Czech Republic has found sources abroad for hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds that it could deliver to Ukraine in a matter of weeks
However, it needs funding from partners in the United States, Germany, and Sweden, says Czech President Petr Pavel. He made the statement on Saturday, February 17, 2024, during a debate at the Munich Security Conference, according to České noviny.
"We have found 500,000 pieces of ammunition of 155 mm caliber and 300,000 pieces of 122 mm caliber," the Czech leader said.
At the same time, Pavel called the situation on the frontlines of the Russian-Ukrainian war difficult.
"The situation on the battlefield has changed significantly since last year. This is not good," he said.
According to him, Russia has learned from many mistakes, changed its tactics and shifted its economy to a military mode.
"Russia doesn't care about human resources, and President Vladimir Putin is working for some visible success before the presidential election," Pavel added.
- The 155 mm caliber is standard for NATO artillery. Ukrainians need it when using Western howitzers.
- The 122 mm caliber projectile is used by Ukrainian artillery when working with D-30 trailed howitzers and 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems.
