Ukrainian Security Service detains 4 military recruitment officers suspected of corruption
The Security Service of Ukraine detained four more military enlistment officers and heads of military medical commissions. They are suspected of corruption, allegedly helping draft dodgers
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) press center.
"As a result of operational measures in Kyiv, Odesa and Kharkiv region, 4 military officials were detained who helped draft dodgers avoid military service and flee abroad," the statement said.
It is noted that in exchange for money, the officials offered conscripts to evade mobilization on the basis of fake documents on their unfitness for military service for health reasons.
The cost of such "services" was up to $10,000 per person. The sum depended on the timeframe for "resolving the issues" and the financial capabilities of the people.
Detention in Kyiv
In the capital, law enforcement officers detained the head of a district military enlistment office and the head of one of the capital's military medical commissions, who were selling fake medical certificates for serious diagnoses.
"The draft dodgers used the forgeries to avoid conscription and further travel outside Ukraine," the SBU said.
Detention in Kharkiv region
SBU officers detained the head of a district military enlistment office who "earned" more than UAH 11 million from potential conscripts. He involved three officials of a local hospital in illegal activities.
It is noted that in return for bribes, they "found" health problems in persons liable for military service, which became a formal basis for deregistration.
Detention in Odesa
SBU cyber specialists eliminated a corruption scheme organized by the secretary of the local military medical commission. Together with a Kyiv lawyer and two accomplices, they set up a large-scale sale of falsified documents on unfitness for military service.
They searched for their clients all over Ukraine and then registered them with the Odesa military enlistment office to "write them off" from military service.
They have now been served a notice of suspicion and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. The detainees face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
On August 11, the President of Ukraine held a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council: following the meeting, Zelenskyy announced the dismissal of all regional military commissars and the appointment of officers who had served in the frontline.
