Ukrainian Foreign Minister criticizes lack of UN response to Kakhovka HPP destruction
On June 9, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba criticized the lack of UN response regarding the blowing up of the Kakhovka HPP dam
The Minister made the statement on the United News telethon.
Kuleba emphasized that "fast and efficient is not about international organizations." He noted that they have their own bureaucratic processes and constraints that can hinder responses.
"The UN 'made a mistake' on the day of the terrorist attack and the crime of genocide. They were celebrating the Russian Language Day and seemed to have swallowed their tongue. I think that if they had swallowed a mouthful of Dnipro water mixed with engine oil, blood, and the stench of dead animals instead, maybe they would have behaved a little differently. But since New York is far away and the water there is different, they managed to remain silent and do nothing all day," the official said.
He also emphasized his support for the UN office in Ukraine, recognizing their efforts in promptly dispatching a small team to Kherson to provide assistance.
Kuleba added that such a reaction is inadequate for the scale of the tragedy in Ukraine.
However, according to the minister, after talking with the office staff, they redoubled their efforts and formed two teams that are ready to go to the left bank of the Kherson region and help with humanitarian aid and evacuation if Russia provides security guarantees. But Kuleba doubts it will.
