Ukraine's victory will accelerate Russia's disintegration – US analyst Bugajski
Janusz Bugajski, a US analyst, expert at the Jamestown Foundation, and TV presenter, believes that the most likely scenario for the collapse of the Russian Federation is a full-scale explosion, i.e. the destruction of institutions, weakening of the central government, and economic contraction
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"I would say that over the past 30 years, the Russian Federation has proven that it has not succeeded as a state. In its previous iterations (from the Latin iteration - repetition), it also failed as a state, like the tsarist or Soviet empires. Now the Russian Federation is on the verge of collapse. I wrote my book before Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine, so I have updated it somewhat, and I believe that the attack on Ukraine and Ukraine's victory will accelerate the collapse of Russia," the analyst emphasised.
Janusz Bugajski added that for a long time the Russian state has been able to hide its insolvency. It is well known that Russians are very good at disguising and concealing the truth, misleading people by spreading propaganda and disinformation about their own system.
"This is not the fault of the people or the individual, it is the fault of the structure of the state, that is, the institutions that are trying to maintain such a state - a bad economy, massive corruption, incompetence and failure of the military leadership. This is the combination of factors that make Russia a failed state," the expert noted.
Bugajski said that the collapse of Russia is approaching and this process has been launched in many ways.
"Many things are happening underground, things that we do not see or see only at the top. For example, the struggle for power, which I believe is becoming more and more intense in Moscow. But I'm not saying that it will happen exactly like this and exactly then. I am talking about a scenario of what I think will happen when the rift seeps deeper into Russian society. This will definitely not happen at one point uniformly and everywhere, it will be a gradual process that will probably last for many years. I would say the most likely scenario of collapse is a full-scale explosion, i.e., the destruction of institutions, weakening of power in the centre, cuts in the economy, budget, social services, pensions and other payments to the population. And then there will be more frequent unrest in different regions and republics because there will be a struggle for power in the centre. And the centre will not be able to control the whole country. A crisis will begin that will engulf the entire Russian Federation," the American analyst said.
