Ukraine's hydropower generating company pledges to build new HPP on site of destroyed one
Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, said that after de-occupation, a new station will be built very quickly to replace the Kakhovka HPP destroyed by the Russian forces
He said this during a telethon.
He emphasized that the plant is beyond repair, but after the de-occupation of the Kherson region, a new, more powerful hydroelectric power plant will be built.
"The plant is beyond repair, it is completely destroyed, half of the plant is under water, and there is erosion. We realize that we will have to build a new plant very quickly. We will build a more beautiful and powerful station in the same place, and they will see it," emphasized Syrota.
He also pointed out that Ukraine is definitely facing an environmental disaster, as the oil from the turbines has been released into the Dnipro River.
"There will be an environmental catastrophe because the oil that was in the turbines got into the river. The volume can be from 150 to 450 tons of oil. We don't know whether the transformers have been depressurized or not, we will understand later what happened to the ecology of the Kherson region," the head added.
