Ukrainian drones attack important targets in Russia and Crimea

On the night of May 16-17, drones attacked a number of important Russian targets in the temporarily occupied Crimea, Novorossiysk, and Tuapse.

This was reported by several Ukrainian media.

"Ships and other watercraft of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in their places of basing, in particular in Sevastopol and Novorossiysk, were targeted by a complex operation using surface and air drones," the statement said.

Other targets were also hit as a result of Russian air defense and electronic warfare.

The explosions in Crimea were reported by the local pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel Crimean Wind.

The explosions and alleged air defense operation were heard in Sevastopol, Balaklava and the surrounding area. Gauleiter Mikhail Razvozhayev claimed to have repelled an attack by dozens of drones. Five unmanned boats were allegedly destroyed.

According to him, "there is no damage to civilian infrastructure". However, later there were reports of problems with electricity in Balaklava, as well as in different parts of Sevastopol.

Agents from the Atesh resistance movement reported successful hits in Crimea. The guerrillas wrote about the military targets they hit and promised to share the details.

Razvozhayev did admit that the wreckage of a UAV fell on a substation in Sevastopol. He later said that it would take about a day to restore the Sevastopol substations. As a result, there may be power outages in the city.

"In connection with the current situation, it was decided to cancel classes in all schools, institutions of secondary vocational education and kindergartens," he added.

Russia loses 113 soldiers, Grad MLRS, and 2 aerial photo stations in southern Ukraine

The Southern Defense Forces continue to strike at Russian locations, firing positions, and rear areas. During the day, it was confirmed 113 Russian soldiers were killed.

Russia also lost 47 units of weapons and military equipment, including:

  • 1 Grad multiple rocket launcher system;
  • 1 tank;
  • 9 cannons;
  • 27 units of armored vehicles;
  • 3 electronic warfare stations;
  • 2 reconnaissance UAVs;
  • 1 video surveillance camera;
  • 2 aerial photo stations;
  • 1 boat.

A field supply point, a control station, a UAV launch site, and 3 observation posts were destroyed.

Lithuania donates new military aid package to Ukraine

On May 17, Lithuania announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which included ammunition, anti-drones, drones, generators and other equipment.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported the information.

"Lithuania continues to provide uninterrupted military support to Ukraine," the ministry emphasized.

The new aid package includes 5.56×45 mm rounds, ammunition, anti-drones, drones, 100 kW generators, and folding beds.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense also reminded that, in response to Ukraine's requests, Lithuania has already delivered 155 mm ammunition, M577 armored personnel carriers, anti-drone systems, equipment and warm clothing sets necessary for the winter season, ammunition for the Carl Gustaf anti-tank grenade launcher, RISE-1 remote control, explosive systems, generators, a light attack aircraft, a disassembled L-39ZA Albatros aircraft, and other supplies.

"Lithuania's support for Ukraine is long-term and already amounts to one billion euros. Lithuania has provided Ukraine with military support worth about EUR 616 million. During this year, support has already been provided for about 95 million euros, and it is expected that this support dynamics will continue," the ministry summarized.

New US military aid will lead to real changes at the front in Ukraine, says State Department

US military assistance will bring real changes to Ukraine on the battlefield against the invading Russian army. US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said this.

"We know it's a difficult time, but we are confident that military assistance will also make a real difference on the battlefield," he said.

He noted that the $2 billion aid package announced by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his visit to Ukraine will go not only to the Defense Enterprise Program, but also to further strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
