Ukraine's parliament has been considering bill to ban Russian church for almost 1.5 years
All this time, the government has been stubbornly blocking its adoption, constantly coming up with reasons why it is "not the right time." But now all the issues that have been hindering the consideration for many months have finally been resolved, and the draft law is ready for voting
Its text has been officially published on the parliament's website, and there is only one step left before the law is adopted — a vote by MPs.
But for some reason, the draft has not been submitted to the parliament this week. The government also continues to delay the adoption of the law that society is waiting for.
This week, statistical data were released that showed that 83% of Ukrainians believe that the state should intervene in the activities of the Moscow Patriarchate. The figures eloquently demonstrate the strength of the public demand to regulate the activities of religious organizations that are somehow connected to the Russian Orthodox Church. And there is only one legal way to do this — to pass a law.
Statistics confirm that the Ukrainian people support this draft law. I hope that the government will not go against the will of the people and will finally put it to a vote in parliament in the near future! And MPs should hear their constituents and support the draft law.
