Ukraine's national team coach, Vitaly Dubrova, announced that Ukraine will be boycotting the World Judo Championship due to the inclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the competition

Dubrova made this statement in an interview with "Society. Sport."

"We found out about the decision through the IJF website since yesterday was the final day for athlete registration for the World Championship. We had hoped that common sense would prevail, but unfortunately, Russian money won," said the coach.

Dubrova highlighted that the International Federation itself promoted the championship as a "bridge to peace" but pointed out another rule violation.

"In the evening, they also added two Belarusian judokas, a male and a female. According to our rules, only athletes ranked within the top hundred can participate in the continental championship. However, they included a Belarusian man and woman who are ranked 215th and 175th, respectively," explained Dubrova.

The coach emphasized that the International Judo Federation did not thoroughly scrutinize the athletes whose applications were accepted for the World Championship. He claimed that almost all the listed Russian athletes are associated with the security forces or are members of CSKA or the Russian Guard. Furthermore, numerous online photos show them in military uniforms, posing with Shoigu, and receiving awards. This indicates that the monitoring process was merely a formality, lacking substance.

Dubrova revealed that an official statement regarding the boycott will be released on Monday. He also mentioned that the judokas themselves are disappointed by the International Federation's decision.

"The athletes are disappointed because both the male and female competitors had already started their weight loss preparations. For many of them, it would have been their first world championship," stated the coach.

Currently, Ukrainian athletes are planning to participate in the Grand Prix in Austria, scheduled for May 25-27.
