Ukraine allows import of donor blood in emergency situations
The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized the supply of donated blood and its components from abroad in case of urgent need or emergency
This is stated on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the need for donated blood and its components in Ukraine has increased by more than 40%.
"Increased intensity of hostilities at the frontline, daily shelling of peaceful cities by the enemy lead to a significant increase in the need for blood, which is critically needed to save Ukrainian military and civilians," the statement says.
At the same time, Ukraine is currently 100% supplied with donor blood. However, the medical system must be prepared for any emergencies and terrorist attacks by the Russian Federation.
Therefore, the government has adopted a resolution stipulating that blood and its components may be imported to Ukraine from abroad if necessary. This will help avoid a possible shortage of donated blood and components at critical times.
The Cabinet of Ministers noted that blood and components will be supplied to Ukraine as humanitarian aid. The Ukrainian Center for Transplant Coordination, which performs the functions of the National Transfusion Center, was designated responsible for receiving it.
"The resolution adopted today is a preventive document in case of an aggravation of the situation or emergency. It provides for the possibility of applying a mechanism to avoid blood shortages. We are taking all measures to ensure that the system continues to operate smoothly under any circumstances," added Ukraine's Minister of Health Viktor Liashko.
- In May, the Ministry of Health noted that a successful offensive requires more than just weapons. We need blood to save the heroes. So they called on Ukrainians to become donors.

Subsequently, Deputy Minister of Health Valerii Ivasiuk noted that the state should appeal to the EU to have Ukraine accepted into the European blood bank for a certain period of time. This is necessary to compensate for the shortage of blood.
