The occupiers have been detaining the Chernobyl nuclear power plant for ten days now, people are exhausted, - says the mayor of Slavutych Fomichev
People who worked at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the first day of the Russian invasion still remain at the station.
The mayor of Slavutych Yuriy Fomichev reported about it on air of a telethon on Public.
"We can't replace people, they have been working their shift for 10 days. They are divided into two groups, they change each other, but they are tired morally, physically and emotionally," Fomichev said.
He added that people eat sparingly, have limited medication, and find it very difficult.
According to him, this is dangerous for the nuclear facility itself.
"We said that the staff should work stably. In addition, all equipment passing through the Chornobyl zone on wheels carries radioactive dust to the entire territory of Ukraine further in the direction of Kiev, and it has not stopped for days," - said the head of the city.
He noted that there is limited communication with "those people", but there is no guaranteed "green corridor" to replace the entire change of station.
"In addition, the vibration that occurs during the movement of equipment, and God forbid, if there is hostilities, it can also affect the 4th power unit, which has unstable structures. I mean the one that suffered during the 1986 accident, "Fomichev said.
According to him, the collapse of unstable structures can lead to the release of large amounts of radioactive dust.
He noted that there were no such precedents in the world - the seizure of nuclear facilities, nuclear power plants.
