Special investigative teams in Ukraine to collect evidence of Russian crimes for ICC
Ukraine will create special investigative teams (task forces) to collect evidence of Russian crimes, and submit it to the International Criminal Court
This was announced by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin during the United for Justice conference in Bucha, which was dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of the town from Russian invaders.
He noted that he had agreed with the ICC to create special teams to collect evidence of Russian crimes. Today, on March 31, they jointly announced this decision.
Kostin reminded that the ICC recently issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. He noted that this happened because Ukraine cannot convict him because of the immunity he has as president.
"Therefore, in this case, it is the ICC that helps Ukraine, but there may be cases of crimes that have gained global awareness, and we are considering referring them to the ICC. These include cases of war crimes in the Bucha district," the Prosecutor General emphasized.
He added that the work of the Prosecutor General's Office with the ICC continues. There is already a plan and strategy for cooperation for 2023.
