Shchedryk for Christmas: new performances and old favourites
The most famous Ukrainian song, which has united world, now turns 100 years old. Back in 1922, Shchedryk, known as Carol of the Bells, was recorded in New York and since then it has become a real symbol of Christmas.
New and well-known performances of the song are shared by Espreso.West.
First of all, it is worth mentioning the most recent performance, this year's gesture of support from the NATO military - officers and sergeants from NATO member countries performed Shchedryk in the snowy forest of Latvia.

After 100 years, Shchedryk was performed again in New York, in the legendary Carnegie Hall, gathering hundreds of spectators, as well as considerable funds for the support of Ukraine.
It is worth mentioning here the very first performance of the carol from 1922.
The updated version of Shchedryk was also sung this year by Taras Topolia, the leader of the Antytila band, the children's ensemble Zerniatko and the ensemble named after Hryhoriy Veryovka. It is called Carol for the Charity and aims to raise funds for the needs of Ukrainian children abroad. “Christmas not home” - this version begins with such words of reality for many Ukrainian families.
The Shadow of the Sun folk metal band also has its own version.
Due to the drums, Schedryk acquired an original sound performed by the Zapal band.
Little Ukrainians, who are forced to stay in Italy due to Russian aggression, also sang a carol.
An unusual mixed version of Schedryk also appeared.
It is also worth mentioning one of the most famous performances of Schedryk (Carol of the Bells) by the Pentatonix band.
And perhaps the most moving version of Schedryk in the world belongs to the choir of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, whose history stretches back hundreds of years.
