Search operation completed at site of Russian missile attack in Uman: two people missing
On Saturday, April 29, a search and rescue operation was completed in the city of Uman, Cherkasy region, at the site of a Russian missile attack on the morning of April 28; two women are currently missing
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported the information on Facebook.
According to the Interior Minister, rescuers were working to the limit to save people trapped under the rubble. Heavy machinery and special equipment were engaged. Police officers and volunteers provided assistance.
The minister also noted that 17 people were rescued during the search and rescue operation.
"Unfortunately, 23 people died as a result of the Russian strike: 22 were removed from under the rubble, and another person died in the hospital. Among the dead are six children: three boys (1.5, 16 and 17 years old) and three girls (8, 11 and 14 years old)," the minister said.
In addition, according to him, all 23 bodies have been identified. Thus, a special headquarters was operating at the site, where close relatives of the victims could submit biological samples for DNA comparison.
Nine people were injured in the missile strike. Medics accompanied by police ensured prompt hospitalization of the victims.
"All services worked in a coordinated and efficient manner. I am grateful to the rescuers, police, utility workers, and dozens of Uman residents who joined the dismantling of the collapsed building," added Klymenko.
He emphasized that the work was very fast, as everyone was in a hurry, hoping to find survivors under the rubble.
