Russia's isolation becomes West's key strategy – diplomat Klimkin
Pavlo Klimkin, diplomat and Ukraine's Foreign Minister (2014-2019) believes that Russia is already beginning to feel isolated
He said this on Espreso TV.
“A consensus attitude towards Russia is still being formed in Europe. Everyone understands that allowing Russia to raise the stakes again is a defeat for the whole of Europe. Discussions about Ukraine's accession to NATO are ongoing. Membership could be postponed with a transition period and new guarantees. These guarantees should pacify Putin and any other regime that may exist in Russia. Putin should not even think about attacking Europe, and we belong to the European space. During the war, NATO cannot decide on Ukraine's accession to the Alliance, but the world is changing rapidly. And what is impossible now may become possible during next year's summit in Washington. The main thing is to have an ambitious vision,” Klimkin emphasized.
According to the diplomat, Russia is already beginning to feel isolated.
“It is impossible to return to the status quo with gray zones, because gray zones provoke Putin to destabilize the situation in Ukraine and Europe. Europe is already raising the question of how to isolate Russia within its current borders. Isolating Russia is becoming the West's key strategy towards Moscow. And Russia is already beginning to feel it,” Klimkin said.
