Death toll from Russian missile attack on Sumy rises

Yesterday, around 8 pm, there was a missile attack. A rocket hit a school, causing severe damage to one of the buildings. The air raid alert was announced only after the attack.
The impact caused a fire, and the debris has not been cleared yet. The explosion was so powerful that it shattered windows in nearby houses and damaged a church close to the school.
According to Kramchenkov, the number of injured individuals might still increase due to the severity of the attack.
“The wreckage was found about 100-150 meters away from the explosion site. It is believed to be a missile strike originating not from the border, but from other territories within the region,” he stated.
At approximately 11:00, the city council received information about two people who were killed due to an attack on the city, and at least 20 others were injured. Among the injured, three are currently in the hospital.
Before that, according to the Sumy City Council's report at 10:00 a.m. on July 30, a total of 17 patients had sought medical assistance at healthcare facilities. Among them, three are receiving treatment in the hospital for moderate injuries, and one person has passed away.
The Sumy regional military administration also reported on the attack, urging people “not to share photos and videos of the impact site and the efforts to clean up.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs later confirmed at least one person dead and five civilians injured. The police, rescuers, and medics are currently at the scene, working to manage the aftermath of the incident.
As of July 29, 2023, only about 65% of educational institutions in Ukraine have shelters, which can accommodate approximately 56% of the people involved in the education system.
