EU membership agreement shouldn't contain any questions about Ukraine's territory - Deputy PM Stefanishyna
Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, says that the agreement on Ukraine's membership in the EU should not contain any territorial restrictions
She said this in the Ukrainian parliament, Ukrinform reports.
"European integration will be from Sevastopol to Kyiv," Stefanishyna emphasized.
She emphasized that in its negotiating framework, which will be presented at the first intergovernmental conference in June, Ukraine will emphasize that there can be no restrictions on the territorial application of the EU membership agreement.
"Regarding the war and EU membership, this is my principled position based on legal arguments related to the process of signing the Association Agreement. It was signed when Crimea was annexed, when military operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions began. However, the Association Agreement does not contain a single word related to its territorial application, and the membership agreement should not contain such restrictions," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
She also noted that there is a special procedure of the European Commission, according to which a recommendation is given to operate in a country where part of the territory is not under effective control, such as in the case of Cyprus.
