This was stated by the Swiss Federal Council, Reuters reports.
"There is currently sufficient international support for a high-level conference to launch the peace process," the Federal Council said in a statement.
The conference will be held on June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden outside the city of Lucerne. It is noted that the purpose of the conference is to create conditions favorable to achieving lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as "a concrete roadmap for Russia's participation in the peace process."
Russia has said that its representatives will not participate in the event organized by Switzerland.
- On February 26, Switzerland announced its intention to hold a summit on peace in Ukraine by the summer. The Kremlin said that organizing such an event without Russia was "not serious and even ridiculous".
- On March 18, Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland Wang Shihting said that China was considering participating in the peace summit organized by Switzerland at Ukraine's request.
- On April 8, the media reported that Switzerland plans to hold a peace summit in mid-June. The conference is expected to be attended by up to a hundred countries.
