Russia understands the war is lost: Russian elites start looking for negotiation opportunities with West - Klimkin
Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Minister 2014-2019, Pavlo Klimkin, believes that the Russian elites are trying to convince the West to join negotiations, because they realize now that Russia's war against Ukraine has been lost
He shared his opinion with Espreso TV.
"The West must understand that there is no need to make another compromise with Russia for the sake of a compromise. Besides, another compromise can be destructive for the West itself. Therefore, Medvedev's interviews are no longer taken seriously in the West. Medvedev was asked, and this is a preparation, we understand it, to announce once again that they are ready for negotiations. And they really want to conduct these negotiations. Russian elites go to the West through various secret channels to agree on negotiations. Because they have realized that this war is lost", Klimkin explained.
The diplomat stressed that a war against Ukraine would be fatal for Russia in any case.
"Losing the war against Ukraine would mean the disintegration of the Russian Federation. Theoretically, winning this war would also mean the disintegration of Russia. By seizing more territories, Russia would receive even greater resistance from the Ukrainians. Therefore, the Russian regime understood that any outcome of the war would be negative for them", he added.
