What challenges Ukraine faces in destroying Russian A-50 aircraft
Valeriy Romanenko, an aviation expert and leading researcher at the State Aviation Museum, said that Russian forces are now deploying A-50 reconnaissance aircraft as far as possible from the border with Ukraine because of the threat of losing these aircraft
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Unfortunately, we will not be able to destroy all Russian A-50s. Because the Russians deploy them very far from our borders. In particular, in the eastern part of the Moscow region at the Ivanovo-Severny airfield, where there are at least 7 operational A-50s. Of course, some of them are in such local service. However, they are able to use 4 of them for their intended purpose," Romanenko said.
The expert noted that following the loss of several A-50s, Russia uses this type of aircraft more cautiously.
"However, we should look at this situation from a slightly different perspective. The first A-50 was downed at a distance of 120 km, and the second at a distance of 220 km. This means that if they don't want to keep losing such expensive aircraft, they need to redeploy them as far away from the border with Ukraine as possible. In particular, they should at least move their patrol routes 100 kilometers deeper into their territory. Then another problem arises for them. From this distance, these planes will not see anything, as their equipment works effectively at a distance of up to 300 km," he added.
