Victorious news of 772nd day of war: drones attack Russian aircraft, Russia’s air defense cannot fight UAVs
Ukrainian drones destroyed military aircraft at a Russian airfield, and a new demining machine was tested in Ukraine
SBU drones attack 6 aircraft in Russia
On the night of April 4-5, Ukrainian drones attacked the Morozovsk airfield in the Rostov region. At least 6 aircraft were destroyed there. The Russian Defense Ministry says 53 drones were allegedly destroyed.
According to regional officials, Russian air defense allegedly repelled a massive UAV attack on the Morozovsky district. At least 40 drones were involved. As a result, a power substation was damaged and there are problems with electricity. According to open sources, Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34 bombers were based at the Morozovsk airfield. These are the aircraft used by Russia to drop the guided bombs on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and frontline Ukrainian cities.
"At least 6 Russian military aircraft were destroyed, and another 8 were heavily damaged," the source said.
Russian air defense is unlikely to be able to fight drones
Major of the National Guard of Ukraine, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleksii Hetman, believes that Russia does not have air defense capabilities to destroy Ukrainian drones. He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Russian air defense is the same air defense we had before our partners started supplying us with more modern means of destroying air targets. The Russians have a wide variety of air defense systems, but these weapons can hardly fight drones. It was not designed for this," explained Hetman.
According to the veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, each air defense system was developed against a specific class of target.
"There are missile defenses, medium-range, short-range, and long-range SAMs. That is, each SAM is used for specific purposes. There is no such system that can shoot down everything at once: ballistic missiles, Shaheds, and small UAVs. If the Russians have any weapons that can shoot down our drones, they probably have them in limited quantities," Hetman added.
Ukraine's National Guard captures Russian marine
Soldiers with Ukraine's 21st National Guard Brigade have captured a Russian marine who came to storm Ukrainian positions on a moped.
This is reported by the National Guard of Ukraine.
"During the work of one of the aerial reconnaissance units in the area of Urozhaine, UAV operators noticed a Russian serviceman approaching Ukrainian positions on a moped and then trying to get closer unnoticed and conduct reconnaissance," the statement says.
The Russian is 43 years old. He served under contract in the ranks of the Marine Corps Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces. From September 2023, he took part in combat operations in the Donetsk region. According to him, he was drafted as a driver, but then transferred to an assault unit.
New demining machine tested in Ukraine
Ukraine has tested the DOK-ING MV-4 lightweight demining vehicle: it is resistant to the detonation of anti-personnel mines and unexploded ordnance.
The demining machine was assembled by the Ukrainian company A3tech, which has been cooperating with the Croatian manufacturer DOK-ING since 2020. The share of localization is 15%, as Ukrainian specialists manufactured the working shaft and elements of the machine's working body. The manufacturer plans to increase the level of localization to 25-30% by the end of the year.
So far, this demining machine has been tested on sand, gravel, black soil and areas with dense vegetation. It has also been tested for survivability: it has undergone a series of explosions of about 600 grams of TNT equivalent.
After the tests, the certification procedure will be carried out.
