Ukraine's drones hit airfields in Russia, damaging 19 aircraft, including 3 Tu-95MS bombers

On the night of April 4-5, Ukrainian drones attacked Russian military airfields in Yeysk, Kursk, Engels, and the Morozovsk air base in the Rostov region. The attack damaged a total of 19 aircraft, including 3 Tu-95MS strategic bombers

Sources in the special services told Ukrainian Babel media that the drone attack damaged at least 3 Tu-95MS bombers — these are the aircraft that launch Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles at Ukraine.

Suspilne, citing sources, reported that two Su-25s were damaged in Yeysk, and four Russian servicemen were killed.

Later, Schemes published satellite images taken at Russian airfields before the drone attack. In Engels, 3 Tu-160s, 5 Tu-95s, and one Tu-22 and one Il-76 each were spotted. In Yeysk, there were 10 L-39 training and combat aircraft, 5 An-26 transport aircraft, one An-74 and one An-12, 4 Su-27, 4 Su-25, one Su-30 and Ka-27 helicopters, one Mi-8 and 2 Tu-134UBL training aircraft. At the Morozovsk airbase, there were 29 fighter jets of various types, most of them Su-34.

Earlier on April 5, the governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, reported on the attack.

According to Golubev, Russian air defense allegedly repelled a massive UAV attack on the Morozovsky district. At least 40 drones were involved. As a result, a power substation was damaged and there are problems with electricity.

The first explosions could be heard around midnight. Residents report explosions, drones are allegedly attacking the Morozovsk airfield. According to open sources, Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34 frontline bombers are based there.

According to the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, a UAV was allegedly eliminated in Engels in the morning. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure as a result of the falling debris.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that during the night and morning of April 5, their air defense system allegedly intercepted and destroyed 44 UAVs over the territories of Rostov - 1 UAV, Saratov - 1 UAV, Kursk - 1 UAV, and Belgorod - 1 UAV, as well as 6 UAVs over the territory of Krasnodar Krai.

Ukrayinska Pravda,Suspilne, and hromadske report, citing their own sources, that Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34 bombers were based at the Morozovsk airfield. These are the aircraft used by Russia to drop the guided bombs on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and frontline Ukrainian cities.

"At least 6 Russian military aircraft were destroyed, and another 8 were heavily damaged," the source said.

In addition to the equipment, about 20 Russian soldiers were killed and wounded.

They added that "this is an important special operation that will significantly reduce the combat potential" of the Russian Federation.
