Russian army tries to break through Ukrainian defense 27 times in Novopavlivka sector - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on March 23.

Russian attacks across Ukraine 

In total, Russia launched 6 missile strikes, 70 airstrikes, and 72 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Multi-storey buildings and private houses were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline situation 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 15 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, Russia did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions. However, more than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian troops repelled six enemy attacks near the towns of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Terny, Yampolivka, Rozdolivka, and Vesele in the Donetsk region, where the Russian army, supported by air power, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. More than 10 localities suffered from artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 11 enemy attacks near Klishchiivka, Bohdanivka, and Ivanivske in the Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled nine Russian attacks near Berdychi, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. About 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka, and Urozhaine, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops 27 times. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russia attacked the Ukrainian positions 3 times with the support of aviation near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, Russia made one unsuccessful attack on the Ukrainian positions near Krynky, Kherson region, during the day. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 8 Russian military positions.

The missile troops destroyed 1 manpower concentration area, 4 control points, 1 air defense facility, 1 artillery facility, and 1 radar station.

• Over the last day, 69 combat engagements took place at the front. Ukrainian defenders repelled a number of attacks in seven sectors and killed 1,050 Russian soldiers.
