Slovak opposition to call no-confidence vote against Fico government over shift to Russia
Opposition parties in Slovakia have announced they will initiate a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Robert Fico's government, citing his approach of aligning the country's foreign policy closer to Russia
Reuters and TASR report that lawmakers from the opposition parties "Progressive Slovakia" (PS), "Freedom and Solidarity" (SaS), "Christian Democratic Movement" (KDH), and the factions of the "Slovakia," "For the People," and "Christian Union" (KU) parties believe Prime Minister Fico is poorly managing the country.
They pointed out issues in Slovakia's healthcare sector, rising prices, and problems with the land registry. Additionally, there were concerns about attempts to challenge Bratislava's foreign policy orientation.
The opposition states that it does not want the prime minister to "lead Slovakia eastward," as he does not have the authority to do so.
Reuters mentions that Fico's coalition has become more fragile in recent months, with its majority in parliament shrinking.
