From Bryansk to Kazan: Ukraine targets Russian defense industry with precision strikes
Serhiy Zgurets, military expert and CEO of the Defense Express media and consulting company, highlighted that Ukraine's Defense Forces are systematically targeting Russian defense industry enterprises
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Our strike systems aren’t just hitting Russian command posts, which has been a key trend in recent weeks. They’re also striking Russian defense industry facilities. For example, the Kazan plant, which produces critical components for several Russian weapons systems. There are also reports of a strike on the Bryansk plant, which manufactures solid fuel and equipment for the Russian military. This wasn’t just a drone operation like those in Kazan," Zgurets explained.
He elaborated on the challenges of drone strikes. Drones can travel up to 1,000 kilometers, but their small warheads limit the damage they can cause. To create significant impact, multiple drones are needed, along with precise reconnaissance and route planning.
"When the Bryansk plant was hit, ATACMS missiles were used. This was the sixth strike on the plant. The latest attack was especially powerful, showing that long-range missiles are crucial for targeting large defense facilities. Single strikes often aren’t enough to achieve meaningful results," Zgurets added.
He also noted that Ukraine's Defense Forces are systematically targeting multiple Russian defense enterprises. This strategy relies on long-range Ukrainian drones and available missile systems.
"Right now, we’re using ATACMS, but I hope we’ll eventually get TAURUS missiles. Expanding our arsenal, alongside our Neptune missiles, will increase our capabilities," the military expert said.
- On Tuesday night, January 14, Russian authorities reported alleged drone strikes on Engels, Saratov, and Kazan, claiming damage to an industrial facility and a chemical plant.
