Russia intensifies attacks on Sumy region after Ukrainian advances in Kursk – Ukrainian military
Russian forces are ramping up attacks on towns in the Sumy region, potentially in response to the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region
This was reported by Vadym Mysnyk, spokesperson for the Siversk operational-strategic troop grouping, as reported by Radio Svoboda.
According to Mysnyk, Ukraine’s ongoing operation in the Kursk region has resulted in a noticeable decrease in Russian mortar fire along the Sumy border.
"We're seeing a clear drop in mortar fire, and in some areas, it's vanished entirely. Same goes for close-quarters combat — just a few kilometers away. We're not giving the enemy that opportunity," said Mysnyk.
However, he noted a shift in Russia’s tactics following Ukraine’s Kursk offensive, "In Kharkiv, reports say the bombings using guided aerial bombs have ceased, where they’d been flattening Vovchansk and other towns. But attacks have ramped up specifically in the Sumy region."
- On the evening of September 16, Russian occupying forces launched waves of attack drones on Ukraine. A UAV struck Konotop in the Sumy region, and Sumy itself endured a heavy air assault.
