Russia conducts massive assaults under 'Donetsk scenario' in Kharkiv sector - Achilles Battalion
Yuriy Fedorenko, commander with the 92th Brigade's Achilles UAV Battalion, says that despite the Russian high-intensity actions in the Kharkiv sector, the Ukrainian army has made significant gains
He said this on Espreso TV.
"Despite the fact that the Russian army is acting quite intensively in the Kharkiv sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have made significant progress in defending our positions. In particular, last week, for the first time in recent months, Russia carried out massive attack and assault operations using lightly armored vehicles according to the 'Donetsk scenario'. That is, when several armored vehicles such as a tank with trawls are moving ahead to remove minefields, and an infantry fighting vehicle is moving behind them. All these vehicles are equipped with so-called sheds, metal nets that make it difficult to destroy them with anti-tank weapons or FPV drones," noted Yuriy Fedorenko.
According to him, Russian assault infantry sits between the armor and nets around the tank or armored personnel carrier, whose task is to get as close to the line of contact as possible and enter the front line. Then the armored vehicles are sent to pick up a new batch of assault troops.
"As a result, 10 out of 12 enemy vehicles were completely destroyed on the battlefield. The single infantry that managed to hasten away was also destroyed. This became possible thanks to the combined work of the brigades holding this section. On that day alone, the Achilles battalion managed to destroy 7 armored vehicles, 4 tanks and 3 infantry fighting vehicles. At the moment, the Russian army has no success, despite the high intensity of combat operations and the change in enemy tactics, in particular in the build-up of armored vehicles," commented the commander of the 92nd Brigade's Achilles Battalion.
Fedorenko added that this was the first time in the past two months that such a large-scale Russian assault had occurred. In his opinion, it was due to a miscalculation by Russian forces, who incorrectly assessed Ukrainian strength and believed that some Ukrainian units were in the Kursk region.
- On August 19, Ukraine's General Staff reported that 145 combat clashes took place at the front over the past day. The Russian army is attacking the Pokrovsk and Toretsk directions the most.
