Russia attacks ship carrying wheat outside Ukrainian grain corridor — Ukrainian Navy
Russian troops attacked a civilian ship carrying wheat in the Black Sea with an Kh-22 missile. The ship, which was heading to Egypt, was targeted outside the Ukrainian grain corridor
This was reported by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, on the United News telethon.
“Unfortunately, we had a similar incident last year. In time, it will become clear whether this was a targeted attack or not. However, it doesn't change the fact that the Russians attacked a civilian vessel, whether due to irresponsible use of weapons or a deliberate strike. In any case, this occurred outside our grain corridor,” he said.
Pletenchuk explained that the Kh-22 anti-ship missile is an outdated weapon, typically launched by strategic aviation. He noted that on September 12, Russia used a Tu-22 bomber to carry out this attack.
The spokesman also assured that the Ukrainian grain corridor is operating in a stable mode. Pletenchuk emphasized that most of the corridor passes through the territorial waters of NATO countries, so Russia does not dare to create similar incidents there.
“In addition, these vessels are usually flying foreign flags, and among the leaders who use the services of our grain corridor, China is in first place, Spain is in second place,” he said.
