Ukraine lacks resources to build its own 'Surovikin line', we have to rely on terrain - Ukrainian major Hetman
Major of the National Guard of Ukraine, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleksiy Hetman, believes that people from all over the country should be involved in the construction of fortifications
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"The fortification lines should have been built since the beginning of 2022, wherever possible. The fact is that we really cannot build defence lines in three rows and 1,500 km long, which would be as powerful as the so-called Russian Surovikin lines. We definitely won't have time to build it, we don't have enough technical and human resources," said Hetman.
According to the reserve major of the National Guard, people from all over the country should be involved in the construction of fortifications.
"The engineering troops will not have time to build fortifications on such a large area. That is, we have to build something like the Great Wall of China for 1,500 km, but we will not be able to build such fortifications in three defence lines. Therefore, we will compensate with terrain, platoon and company strongholds, and dense mining. That is, we have the means to do it," explained Hetman.
- On February 25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an audit of the fortifications to help identify and eliminate weaknesses on the front line.
- On March 4, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed a new commander of the Armed Forces Support Forces.
