Reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, former spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2014-2017) Vladislav Seleznyov believes that the fighting on the right bank of the Oskil is aimed at the enemy expanding the bridgehead to attack Kupyansk

He expressed this opinion on the air of Espreso TV.

"Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kostyantynivka urban agglomeration - these settlements are located next to each other, so it is probably not worth dividing them among themselves. But when we are talking about a certain preparation of enemy forces and equipment in the Lyman direction, I think it is worth, it would be rational, to add another section of the front, another direction. We are talking about the Kupyansk direction: Kupyansk, Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi. The battles that are currently raging on the right bank of the Oskil River in the Dvorichna area are aimed at creating for the enemy not only a bridgehead on the right bank, but also its expansion in order to attack our Kupyansk from this side," he said.

Vladislav Seleznyov believes that it is extremely important for the enemy to take control of the railway connection in the east of the Kharkiv region.

"The key mission entrusted to the railway connection is the unhindered, full-fledged and timely supply of everything needed for the Russian group of troops. If we look at the Deep State map, then it is obvious that it is through the territory of the Kharkiv region that the enemy plans to supply everything necessary for his grouping, which in the future will operate in the Lyman area. Therefore, the same bridgehead for an attack on Slovyansk and Kramatorsk from the northeast should not be provided at the expense of this section of the front that I am talking about, the Kupyansk direction," the expert noted.

He emphasized that the Russian troops are actively preparing, planning in advance, and taking appropriate measures to stabilize the situation for themselves on this section of the front. According to him, the occupying Russian forces are trying to secure the appropriate logistical routes adjacent to this territory.

"And here we should not have illusions, the enemy is acting as rationally as possible, acting within the framework of a previously created and secured plan. And I think that they will continue to push and press in this way to create the most convenient and comfortable conditions for the actions of his group, which will move towards Slovyansk, Kramatorsk from the Lyman direction. But let's remember, not only the Lyman direction, but also Chasiv Yar, and also the Pokrovsk direction. Most likely, a large-scale attack will take place on the Slovyansk - Kramatorsk - Druzhkivka - Kostyantynivka urban agglomeration from at least three sides," Vladislav Seleznyov added.

  • On January 27, British intelligence stated that the Russian occupation army is gradually expanding its bridgehead on the western bank of the Oskil River in the Kharkiv region, the enemy is trying to put pressure on Kupyansk.
  • On January 28, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov denied Russian media reports about the alleged occupation of the village of Dvorichna in the Kharkiv region.
  • On Wednesday, January 29, the Russian army struck an ambulance with a drone in Kupyansk, Kharkiv region. Three medical workers were injured in the attack.
