Luxembourg PM Frieden calls for clear security guarantees for Ukraine
In a speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on January 29, Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, emphasized the need for clear security guarantees for Ukraine after the war ends to ensure lasting peace in Europe
European Pravda reports.
Frieden stressed that Ukraine must receive security guarantees to maintain peace and security across Europe. He highlighted the need for all European countries to live in peace and security, and called for a sustainable peace that includes security guarantees for Ukraine and other countries.
He clarified that the nature of these guarantees would vary depending on the countries offering them, including NATO membership or bilateral or multilateral agreements, whose details are yet to be discussed.
"We’ve just started discussions about security guarantees with President Zelenskyy, but this is just the beginning. There are no easy solutions; they must be part of a broader package. We must ensure that when this horrific war of aggression ends, we can return to a world of peace," said Frieden.
The Luxembourg Prime Minister emphasized that the search for peace must be done together with Ukraine and cannot be done by anyone else speaking on behalf of Ukraine or its people.
"This (the search for peace, - ed.) cannot be done by anyone else who speaks on behalf of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Only representatives of Ukraine can make decisions," Frieden summarized.
