Brit walks from Budapest to Uzhhorod to join Ukraine's Armed Forces
Englishman Marcus Smith walked from Budapest to Uzhhorod for more than 8 days to join the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
This is reported by the Transcarpathian Territorial Recruitment Center.
"It took 8 days, 6 hours, 36 minutes and 14 seconds for the Englishman Marcus Smith to walk from Budapest to Uzhhorod. Why? To join the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the statement says.
Marcus Smith is from Manchester. He believes that if Putin is not stopped now, it could lead to World War III.
"Over the past few years, the war in your country has been covered on television around the world. I think you deserve a lot of respect and honor because you are fighting for the peaceful life of your country. I came here to try to help you in this war," said Marcus Smith.
"Unfortunately, Putin does not want peace and I feel that he will not want to stop with Ukraine. He will want more and more, and this could lead to World War III, in which he will be like Hitler. He will continue to go from country to country saying, ‘I want this and this! And these are my rules!’. So I am here to fight for Ukrainians and hopefully prevent a world war.”
The volunteer recalled World War II, in which Great Britain survived thanks to its allies.
"But if not for those guys who went forward, we would have lost that war. If we don't help your army now, we may find ourselves in a global conflict, and that would be very bad for everyone. I express my respect to all those who are now in the army and hope that the men who are still hesitating to take up arms will rethink their position. We are here to prevent the loss of lives in the future. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!" he called.
- On January 12, the Ukrainian parliament adopted amendments to the law on the procedure for contract military service by foreigners and stateless persons in all military formations, allowing citizens of other countries to defend Ukraine not only in the Armed Forces, but also in the National Guard and other military formations.
