Civilians will face fuel shortages - Defense Express on attack on oil depot in Feodosia
Military expert, editor-in-chief of Defense Express Oleh Katkov believes that after the attack on the oil depot in Feodosia in the temporarily occupied Crimea, it will be primarily the locals who will have fuel shortages
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
‘This strike by itself, isolated from all the others, will not have any strategic consequences, because we are talking about the need for systematic strikes. The enemy was left without this terminal, the marine terminal, because it is indeed burning completely, given the footage that is already available and reports from local residents. That is, this facility has been destroyed. Of course, it's impossible to say that without it, the entire Russian grouping in the occupied Crimea or in the south in general will be left without fuel, and there will be interruptions in fuel supply. But I think we need to understand that it is not the Russian army that will be affected by the fuel shortages - it is the local residents who will be affected first and foremost,’ he said.
Oleg Katkov stressed that difficulties with fuel for the Russian army can be achieved through systematic attacks on oil facilities.
‘At first, for example, in the occupied Crimea, fuel will disappear from civilian petrol stations, i.e. those that serve the civilian population. And only after such strikes are repeated and methodical, after the possible means of delivering this fuel directly to the occupied Crimea are cut off, then we can talk about the lack of fuel for the army. This also needs to be understood. In the end, it again depends on how large-scale, how potentially permanent such strikes will be. Because, again, if you withdraw one facility, the enemy will adapt to it, but if you work out a scenario where the enemy simply won't be able to convoy supplies at a certain depth from the front line, then yes, it will be a significant complication for them. Because, indeed, military equipment requires astronomical fuel supplies. To understand, a tank consumes 3.6 liters of fuel to travel one kilometer,’ the expert added.
- On the night of Monday, October 7, explosions occurred in Crimea. A fire broke out at an oil depot in Feodosia due to an attack by Ukrainian Defense Forces drones.
- On October 7, Valerii Riabykh, a military expert and development director of the information and consulting company Defense Express, said that it was not the first time that the offshore oil terminal in the temporarily occupied Feodosia, Crimea, had been targeted by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. This time the strike was the most effective.
