Russia is structured like an eggshell
Russia is a geographically large and resource-powerful country, but it is not monolithic or homogeneous. This is what gives us our main hope
Denis Diderot, who visited Russia in the 18th century and got to know its way of life, called it a "colossus with feet of clay". It doesn't matter how big the giant is, if its legs can't support its weight, they crumble and crack. And the giant falls.
This point has been repeatedly confirmed by internal coups and riots. We all know well from history how the Russian Empire experienced a revolution in 1917 and overthrew the Russian Tsar, and then the October Revolution happened and the Bolsheviks overthrew those who had overthrown the Tsar. But the scale is surprising – how did it happen that a huge, powerful empire, with a large army, one of the main participants in World War I, which the army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire could not cope with, was defeated by a bunch of fanatics? How is this possible?
“Perhaps it's because the entire large tsarist army and the people who were subject to it simply watched the tsar and the bourgeois being beaten and even enjoyed it. A familiar picture, isn't it? We have recently seen something similar. And this, by the way, is a good answer to what would happen to the war if the government in Russia was overthrown - then the victorious country withdrew from World War I because it was no longer up to war”
The fact that this was no accident was confirmed by the collapse of the USSR and the events in Russia. The entire great and powerful army of the USSR and the entire Soviet people watched as a handful of Ukrainians and people of other enslaved nationalities easily tore apart what the great army of the Third Reich could not handle. And Yeltsin in a tank defeated a terrifying domestic military machine that had kept half of Europe in fear for decades.
The difference between Russia and Ukraine is clearly seen in the revolutions. Ukrainians do not limit themselves to one Kyiv Maidan and organise parallel ones in every regional centre, which shows the involvement of people in the processes taking place in the country. This was the case during the Orange Revolution and it was the case during Euromaidan. In Russia, on the other hand, the movement always takes place only in the capital, and the rest of the country gathers around the radio or around the TV, depending on the era.
Russia is structured like an eggshell - it can withstand a lot of external pressure, sometimes insanely high, but any little chicken can easily pierce it with its beak from the inside and get out.
The colossus’ legs are obviously already cracked and can barely support the heavy reinforced concrete body of Russia. The task of the world is to hit Russia's legs while it is waving its arms in a war with us. The task of Ukrainians is to run away to a safe distance when the colossus starts to fall.
And pray that the wind does not blow in our direction.
