Russia has nothing to replace destroyed ships - SBU major general Yahun
Major General of Ukraine's Security Service, military and public figure Viktor Yahun noted that Russia's capabilities in the Black Sea are decreasing
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"The destruction of the Novocherkassk landing ship is a rather powerful blow to Russia. And it confirms that its capabilities are decreasing. The Novocherkassk is one of the amphibious ships that was once produced in Poland for the USSR. That is, such ships are not manufactured in Russia, and the Russians have not yet found a replacement," Yahun said.
According to the SBU reserve major general, Russia actively using landing ships to transfer certain weapons from the Russian coast to Crimea to avoid using the Crimean Bridge.
"Ukraine has successfully demonstrated that it is capable of destroying enemy ships both in our Crimean ports and on the Black Sea coast of Russia. This is a tactic of destroying the Black Sea Fleet in its places of basing," Yahun emphasized.
What is known about the destruction of the Novocherkassk
On the night of December 26, residents of Feodosia in Russian-occupied Crimea reported loud explosions over the city. Later, the head of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, confirmed the information about the destruction of the Novocherkassk landing ship.
The Air Force also reported that the large landing ship Novocherkassk was attacked by cruise missiles from tactical aircraft at about 2:30 a.m. The Air Force reported it as destroyed.
Natalia Humeniuk, a spokeswoman for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, said during the telethon that the large detonation was caused not just by fuel or ammunition from the ship itself, but probably by the cargo on board.
