'Ukraine may attempt to assassinate officials with chemicals': Russian fakes for August 27
The Center for Countering Disinformation has published a selection of anti-Ukrainian fakes launched by Russian propagandists on August 27
According to the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, on August 27, Russian propaganda spread two significant fakes.
Fake: The head of the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical and biological defense troops, Kirilov, said: "the Russian Defense Ministry does not rule out attempts to assassinate officials of new Russian regions using chemical agents from Ukraine's Armed Forces".
Rebuttal: Ukraine adheres to the Chemical Weapons Convention, so all such accusations are absurd and have nothing to do with reality.
Fake: Several Russian Telegram channels spread the message: "In Kryvyi Rih, the place of accommodation of foreign instructors in the Aurora hotel was hit.”
Rebuttal: Another attempt by the Russians to absolve themselves of responsibility for a missile attack on a civilian infrastructure facility where civilians were present.
- On August 27, information was circulated online that a fire had allegedly broken out after the explosion at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant, causing radiation to exceed the normal level. This is not true.
