The leader of Switzerland Alain Berset has said that the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine is "an attack on international law" during a speech at the Davos Economic Forum
Swiss President Alain Berset officially opened the 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF). In his speech, he condemned the Russian war against Ukraine as a "brutal attack" on international law and multilateralism, and said democracies were at a turning point.
Berset also noted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was "an attack on a peaceful country" and stressed that Switzerland would make every effort to strengthen international law.
"Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine is a brutal attack on a peaceful country. It is also a brutal attack on international law," he said.
Switzerland explained why it joined the EU sanctions against Russia and stated that "neutrality should not mean indifference.”
