Piontkovsky defines two positive aspects of China's stance on Ukraine
Washington-based political analyst Andrey Piontkovsky believes that Xi Jinping decided to wait until the decisive battle and see what Putin and Ukraine can do
He shared his opinoon on Espreso TV.
“Xi Jinping is playing on the other side. But let's note two positive aspects of China's position on Ukraine. They are not caused by any love for Ukraine, but by his own geopolitical interests. China strongly opposes the use of nuclear weapons,” Piontkovsky emphasized.
According to the political scientist, Xi Jinping sharply and publicly gags Putin because he is not interested in the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
“Xi is afraid that Putin's nuclear blackmail will lead to China's neighbors, fearing this territorial expansion, such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, immediately acquiring nuclear weapons themselves. Therefore, Xi is defending his interests, and this works for Ukraine. No one accepts Putin's nuclear blackmail anymore. China hasn't yet supplied heavy weapons to Russia. Xi chose to wait until the end of this decisive battle and see what Putin is capable of and what Ukraine is capable of,” Piontkovsky emphasized.
