Peskov, Medvedev oppose peace talks with Ukraine
Russia wants to control the Ukrainian regions newly listed in the aggressor country's constitution as "Russian"
This was stated by Peskov, according to The New York Times.
It became known that journalists asked Peskov whether Russia wanted to seize even more Ukrainian territories. He answered "no."
"We just want to control all the land that we have now written down in our constitution as ours," he added.
At the same time, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on the negotiations on the Ukrainian peace formula in Saudi Arabia.
Medvedev's reaction to the Jeddah talks was posted on his Telegram channel. He said that "it is difficult to condemn the desire to end the war and it is impossible to argue with references to the UN Charter, given the understanding that, in addition to sovereignty, there is also the right of nations to self-determination."
However, Medvedev also said that all peace proposals supposedly have a chance of success if three key conditions are met:
-
The participation of both sides of the "conflict" is "not happening" because the aggressor Russia was not involved in these negotiations.
-
Consideration of the historical context - "and it is as follows: the country of Ukraine never existed before 1991.
-
Taking into account the current realities - "and they are as follows: Ukraine is in a stage of semi-disintegration, and some of its territories have returned to Russia."
"An intermediary who is willing to recognize these obvious things has a chance of success. The rest have no chance. However, the negotiations themselves are not needed yet. The enemy should crawl on its knees, begging for mercy," he wrote.

In early August, Saudi Arabia plans to hold peace talks on Ukraine. According to diplomats involved in the discussion, the talks will take place on August 5 and 6 in Jeddah. Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have invited about 30 countries, including the largest EU states, the United States, as well as India, Brazil, Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile, and Zambia. Russia was not invited to the summit, as its main topic will be the Ukrainian Peace Formula, which includes a demand for the liberation of the occupied territories that is unacceptable to Moscow.
