Over 85% of Israelis support Ukraine in war, but we need closer cooperation with government - Ambassador Korniychuk
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel said that more than 85% of the country's citizens support Ukraine in the war. Korniychuk stressed that closer cooperation with the government is needed now
Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk reported this to journalists.
"We have done our personal research as an embassy, there are official studies conducted by analysts: more than 85% of Israeli citizens support Ukraine in this war. It is about the government: I am not an ambassador to the citizens, I am an ambassador to the government, and I need the government to do more. We need to make sustainable strategic decisions that would be different from Israel's policy for many years. That is, Israel has been very reluctant to share its know-how, technology and weapons. The cooperation that is taking place, unfortunately, does not meet the expectations of the Ukrainian side," Korniychuk said.
The ambassador noted that measures are being taken to ensure that the new government of Israel reconsiders the issue of assistance to Ukraine in the near future.
"The new government of Israel has actually been in power for two weeks, and the issue of revising the assistance to Ukraine has not yet been finally determined. But we are taking all possible measures to ensure that this issue is resolved in the near future and in our favor. I hope that all positive developments will be more extensive. We emphasize that humanitarian support is important, but, sorry, we will not win the war with bandages and antibiotics. We need more active military-technical cooperation," Korniychuk added.
The Ukrainian ambassador stressed that currently the issue of Ukraine is not a priority for the new government, but the Israeli Foreign Ministry has included it in the priorities of its work for 2023.
