New Speaker of US House of Representatives agrees to vote for aid to Ukraine under two conditions - Piontkovsky
Washington-based political analyst Andrey Piontkovsky says that the Speaker of the US House of Representatives will not change the fundamental things regarding financial assistance to Ukraine
He said this on the Studio West with Antin Borkovskyi programme on Espreso TV.
"Let's not exaggerate the role of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives. It is important in procedural matters. He can delay things, but he will not change the fundamental things regarding financial assistance to Ukraine. It is supported by 3/4 of the members of the House of Representatives. All Democrats are 100%, and at least about half of the Republicans. He has already articulated that he is willing to vote for aid to Ukraine under two conditions - if there is control. All of Putin's agents have been claiming the same for two years," Piontkovsky said.
According to the political analyst, there may be procedural difficulties, but the aid to Ukraine will not go away.
"And the second condition is that President Biden must outline a clear goal for this assistance. I believe that Biden will not be able to do this. Moreover, in his historic speech, he said that aid is provided to Ukraine so that it can throw out Russian aggressors from its entire territory. So, there will be some procedural difficulties, but fundamentally, the issue of 3/4 of the House of Representatives supporting aid to Ukraine will not go away," Piontkovsky stressed.
- On 26 October, the newly elected speaker of the US House of Representatives said he believed it was necessary to split the issue of support for Ukraine and Israel.
