Russian troops cross Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal in Chasiv Yar — DeepState
As of August 4, 2024, Russian assault troops crossed the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal and established positions in the Zhovtnevyi neighborhood of Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region
This was reported by the Ukrainian non-governmental OSINT project DeepState, which monitors the situation at the front.
"The enemy has advanced in Chasiv Yar," the project informs.
As can be seen on the updated interactive map by DeepState, Russian troops advanced units have entrenched themselves on Mariupolska Street.
Prior to that, the Ukrainian Defense Forces had to leave the Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar, on the eastern bank of the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas Canal that runs through the city.
Chasiv Yar, located on a hill, is strategically important for controlling the neighboring towns of Toretsk, Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk, which surround it from the south and west, as the Ukrainian military has repeatedly emphasized.
