Private military companies in Ukraine can succeed if not part of shadow economy
Ivan Tymochko, a serviceman, head of the Reserve Council of the Ukrainian Ground Forces comments on private military companies working with the Ukrainian army
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“This should be controlled. If the draft law on the creation of private companies is well written, regulates the mandatory return of private company fighters to Ukraine to strengthen Ukraine's Armed Forces, in case of difficult defense situations, to strengthen defense capabilities, and if it is regulated within the framework of the current legislation, then PMCs will produce positive results. Of course, if it is a shadow business, then it will be a threat to us,” Tymochko said.
According to him, the wider the range of opportunities for training Ukrainians, providing opportunities for training, education and experience both in Ukraine and abroad, the better.
“There are already proposals for private military companies. We understand that after the war, there will be a large number of citizens who will consider themselves not only within the army, but will also have a desire to participate in combat. God forbid that this is an uncontrolled process, so that some criminal groups, structures or elements do not take advantage of it,” the serviceman added.
- Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO and military expert, noted that the draft law on the establishment of PMCs will help the Ukrainian Armed Forces to expand the number of personnel with professional skills.
