Russia-Ukraine war: military expert on how to prevent it from turning into World War I
If the war moves into a positional phase, it will be similar to World War I. To prevent such a development, Ukraine must have an advantage in aviation
Andriy Ryzhenko, Captain 1st Rank of the Ukrainian Navy Reserve, strategic expert of Sonata company, spoke about this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Trench warfare is exhausting. The whole dynamic lies in how many tons of ammunition the parties can throw across the contact line. When it comes to such actions of the Russian Federation, it is dangerous for Ukraine. To prevent this from happening, we need aviation that will support the fighting and deprive the enemy of an advantage. Because Russian aviation, along with the use of bombs, especially recently, seriously hinders Ukraine's Armed Forces from moving forward," Ryzhenko said.
A positional war is not profitable for Ukraine, he said.
"This position is not advantageous for Ukraine because we have much less resources than the enemy (Russia - ed.). This is a kind of "trench warfare" when positions are created over a huge length and forces are used on both sides. During a war of attrition, countries actually exhaust each other," Ryzhenko added.
According to him, the basis of Ukraine's success in the course of combat operations is a combination of maneuver warfare and the use of combined weapons.
"Previously, it was called "combined arms fight", when mechanized or other units operating on the battlefield have aviation, artillery and other support to ensure success in the course of hostilities," the military expert added.
