Kherson liberation will take place in several stages - Ukraine’s military expert

Military expert Roman Svitan shared his opinion with Espreso TV live on air.

"Russian troops are not ready to fight in the cities. They had one unit, a part of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces. Ukrainian defenders burned them down in Mariupol. The mobilized troops do not know how to fight in the cities. The battle in urban buildings is much more difficult than in the field" he noted.

According to the military expert, Ukrainian Armed Forces have been preparing for battles in cities for 8 years.

"We have Special Operations Forces, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense units and several National Guard divisions.They are trained to destroy the enemy among the houses and protect the civilian population from coming under the fire. It will be a small deal for us to take Kherson if they really defend it, but it will be a big problem for them" - Svitan added.

In his opinion, Russian forces will not fight in Kherson.

"The capture of the city will take place in several stages. There will be a semi-surrounding and the exit of Ukrainian Armed Forces north of the city to the Antonivskyi Bridge and the entire Russian group will be pressed to Dnipro river. In this state, Russians will leave. There is no point in fighting in a complete encirclement, so they will most likely leave. They will be squeezed out of the city" the expert concluded.
